Dawson Creek is Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway, and the post marking it stands in the middle of downtown. The town grew as the railhead for the BC Peace and remains its agricultural and service centre, with the Walter Wright Pioneer Village preserving the settlement era and the curved Kiskatinaw trestle bridge still carrying traffic on the old highway.
